Category:Listing
From MusoWiki
Listing a service in this Wiki is FREE and involves a simple, four-step process.
Contents |
[edit] Make sure the service has not already been listed.
There are two ways you must do this. Open a new browser tab or window, navigate to http://www.musoswiki.net/ and:
a) use the search box in the left-hand column to search for the service by name; and then
b) go to the URL bar above, delete everything after "http://www.musowiki.net/index.php/" and type the service's name. Beware of spelling, and use capitals at the start of each word in the service's name - this software is case-sensitive. Spaces in the service's name will be converted into underscores in the URL; hyphens, apostrophes and other punctuation will be converted into code in the URL but show up correctly in the page title.
IF you get a "404 - page not found" error, you have probably deleted the "index.php/" part of the URL. Just go back and try again.
IF the page that comes up says "There is currently no text in this page, you can search for this page title in other pages or edit this page.", proceed to step 2. IF not, please ensure that you have not found another service of the same name and skip to step 4.
IF you have found another service of the same name, please repeat step 1 using a subtle variation on your service's name before proceeding to step 2. For example, if the service you want to list is a venue called "The Bluebird Cafe" and is in London, whereas the one you found is the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, try listing your venue as "Bluebird Cafe London" or perhaps "BluebirdCafe" or "Bluebird Restaurant". Since the services are organised by category (see the template for a discussion of this), people looking for your service will not be confused. If it's really a problem, please contact MusoWiki management and we'll sort something out.
[edit] Click on "edit this page" and proceed to step 3.
Note: you must have registered an account and logged in before you can edit pages on this site. This is a security device to allow tracking of all changes and police inappropriate behaviour. Sad, but necessary.
[edit] Open a new browser tab or window to copy the page templates.
In the new tab or window, navigate to this page and click here. This will bring up a page containing the template text. Follow the instructions on that page to copy the template into the service's listing.
You should "Save Page", with a summary of changes, at every opportunity. When you first save, use summary "Initiate page".
[edit] Edit the page's contents to effectively list the service.
See CDBaby's entry for an example.
Please note: This site is NOT intended to replicate a service's own website. It is simply a listing of services in the context that Musos will search for them. DO NOT add extra sections, large graphics or other widgets to the templates. Not only will that make the listing less effective but it is grounds for having the listing deleted.
Note also that you will need a basic knowledge of how MediaWiki's code works in order to make sense of the page's content. For an introduction and basic syntax, click here. However, Hugemusic hopes you will be able to fill in the blanks without much help.
If you arrived at this step because you found the service listing in step 1), click on the "edit' tab across the top of the page. This will take you to the page's source code.
Click on Show Preview test your listing (make sure the logo displays and so on) and then click on Save Page. Your entry should be displayed as other people will see it.
